The Meaning of Gethsemane
The name Gethsemane comes from the Hebrew gat shemanim, meaning “oil press.” It refers to a grove of olive trees where an oil press was located.

THE SIGNIFICANCE
The Garden of Gethsemane holds great significance in Christianity. It represents:

• Agony – Jesus’ physical and emotional suffering
• Submission – His obedience to the will of God
• Betrayal – Judas’ betrayal of Christ
• Redemption – The suffering that led to salvation

Gethsemane reminds us that through surrender and obedience, God brings victory and redemption.
